Social activities of the BASE participants were assessed
within the social relationships questionnaire of the intensive
protocol. Participants were asked three questions concerning
visits and common activities, which could be answered with yes or no
(e.g. "Thinking of the past four weeks, did anyone visit you at
home?"). For each question that a participant had answered with yes,
he or she could name up to five activity partners. If the mentioned
activity partner had not been named in the circle task (Kahn &
Antonucci, 1980), which had been performed at the beginning of the
questionnaire, the participant was asked to give the following
information about him or her: Name,
number of circle,
gender, type
of relationship,
age, place of
residence, duration of
relationship, frequency of
contact and changes of the
relationship within the last five years.
